I know Jefferson said a lot of vile things and did a lot that was even lower - engineering the execution of Burr - his big political rival, trying to impeach John Marshall, trying to suppress the Haitian independence effort, trying to destroy the commerce of New England under the guise of sanctioning Britain.
Ben and Tom were remarkably wise when it came to anything that would not impact their careers or pocket books.
